You'll spend a morning or afternoon in a private kitchen station grinding curry paste by hand, chopping vegetables, and cooking four to five Thai dishes under the guidance of an English-speaking chef. The market tour option takes you to a local market first to taste ingredients and see where they come from. Lunch is included and cooked by you; recipes are emailed afterward. Free round-trip pickup from your hotel in Kata, Karon, Patong or Rawai means you don't arrange transport yourself.
What if you could actually cook the dishes you've been eating all week—not just watch someone else do it? That's the whole point of a Thai cooking class in Phuket, and the one at VJ's operates out of a clean, air-conditioned kitchen where you get your own station and make everything from scratch. You'll grind curry paste using a mortar and pestle the traditional way (no MSG, no shortcuts), then move through four or five dishes depending on which class you pick—Tom Yum soup, Pad Thai, a curry, maybe pineapple fried rice or fish cakes. The chefs are fluent in English and patient about explaining ingredients and swaps you can make at home if something isn't available where you live.
If you book the version with the market tour, a driver picks you up from your hotel in Kata, Karon, Patong or Rawai and takes you to the local market first, where you'll taste exotic fruits and see what goes into the dishes you're about to cook. It's not a long walk or a hard sell—just a chance to see where the ingredients come from and taste a few things you might not recognize. Then you head to the kitchen, cook your own lunch, and eat it fresh. Whatever you don't finish, you take home. The whole experience runs a few hours, and by the end you have printed recipes and a list of ingredient swaps emailed to you so you can actually make these dishes again.
Free pickup is included from most beach areas—Kata, Karon, Rawai, Patong, Naiharn—and the class works for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal diets if you mention it when you book. Coffee and tea are unlimited, and you'll get bottled water throughout. The minimum is two people, so it's not a solo thing, but groups stay small enough that the chef can watch what you're doing and correct your technique without feeling like a factory line.

Is this one for you?Choose this if you want to actually cook Thai food rather than watch a demonstration, and you'd rather not figure out which market to visit or how to translate ingredient names—the class handles all of that, and you leave with recipes you can use at home.
