The Experience

The day starts at a local fresh market near Patong where you walk through stalls with your guide and buy the ingredients you'll cook with later. You'll see how locals shop for produce, fish and spices, and the guide points out what makes each one right for Thai cooking. From there you head to the kitchen in Kata, stopping first at a tropical fruit and vegetable garden where you can pick vegetables to bring into the class.

Once you're in the kitchen, you learn directly from an experienced local chef. The class covers four dishes—Tom Yum Koong, Pad Thai with Prawn, Chicken Green Curry, and Mango with Sticky Rice are among the options—and you make each one yourself. You'll make coconut milk in the traditional way and prepare curry paste by hand, not from a jar. The chef shows you the technique, then you do the work. By the end of the afternoon or morning, depending on which class you choose, you sit down and eat what you cooked.

You leave with a recipe book covering 15 Thai signature dishes so you can cook these at home, plus souvenir photos from the class. The kitchen is in a quiet part of Kata, reachable by a ten-minute walk from Kata Beach. Free pickup and drop-off are included if you're staying in Patong, Karon, or Phuket Town; a small extra charge applies for pickup from Patong area if you're booking alone.
