Thai Cooking Class in Patong: Learn 4 Dishes with Chef Care
You cook four complete dishes and take home a Thai spice kit to make them again.
This hands-on Thai cooking class in Patong starts with a guided tour of a local fresh market to select ingredients, then moves to a private studio where you prepare and cook four authentic Thai dishes: Tom Yum soup, Massaman curry with chicken, Pad Thai with shrimp, and mango sticky rice for dessert. The class runs about four hours, includes all cooking equipment, a souvenir spice kit with herbal curry paste and seasoning, and a PDF recipe file to take home. Chef Care teaches in English and welcomes children from age 7; free transfer within Patong is included.
The Experience
What dishes do you actually want to learn? That's the first thing Chef Care asks, because the class adapts to what you want to cook. The day starts at a local fresh market in Patong where you walk the stalls with your guide, tasting Thai fruits and snacks while picking the ingredients you'll use in the studio. You're not buying blindly—you're learning what goes into each dish before you ever touch a knife.
Back at the cooking studio, you get a welcome drink of lemongrass tea with honey, then Chef Care walks you through the main ingredients: which vegetables, spices and herbs matter and why. Then you move into the four dishes. You're not watching a demonstration—you're doing the prep and cooking yourself. Tom Yum Goong (the spicy soup with Thai herbs), Gang Massaman Ghai (Massaman curry with chicken), Pad Thai Goong (stir-fried rice noodles with shrimp), and Khaow Neaw Ma Muang (mango with sticky rice). The class keeps to a maximum of four people, so there's room to ask questions and get feedback on technique as you work.
After you finish cooking, you eat what you made. The souvenir Thai cooking set—herbal curry paste and seasoning blends—goes home with you, along with the PDF recipes, so the four dishes don't stay in Patong. If you have allergies or dietary restrictions, Chef Care prepares a separate set for you. Free transfer within the Patong area is included, so you don't arrange your own transport to the studio.
