Step-by-step itinerary

Lipovac Winery tour and wine tasting

  • Visit Lipovac vineyards
  • See technological bottling hall
  • Explore underground cellar
  • View Georgian clay qvevri
  • View Italian terracotta amphoras
  • Taste 4 wines with snacks
  • Learn Lipovac winemaking concept

The experience

You arrive at Lipovac Winery to find yourself on mountain slopes overlooking Skadar Lake, standing in front of a working winery that has kept its methods alive for over two thousand years. A live guide meets you and walks you through the vineyards planted with autochthonous grape varieties, the grapes that grow nowhere else, then into a technological hall where you watch the bottling lines at work. The real depth comes next: a 60-meter underground cellar carved 10 meters into the bedrock, lined with wooden barrels and bottles aging in the dark.

Inside that cellar, you stand in front of the Georgian qvevri: ancient clay vessels buried directly in the ground where wine ferments and ages the way it did in the 3rd century B.C. The guide shows you Italian terracotta amphorae alongside them, the same shape the ancient Greeks and Romans used. You taste four or eight wines depending on which option you chose at checkout, each one paired with cold cuts, Montenegrin cheese, olives and tasting snacks created to match them. The winemaking traditions here are old enough that archaeologists found amphoras and jugs in the soil when they dug: proof the place has been doing this longer than most countries have existed.

The 90-minute experience moves at the pace of tasting and learning, not rushing through stops. You leave with the landscape of Skadar Lake still visible from the slopes and a sense of how wine tastes different when it comes from grapes and methods that belong to one place alone.
