History, mountains and wine in one afternoon from the coast

A six-hour tour from Podgorica visits Cetinje, the old royal capital; Lovcen and Skadar Lake National Parks; and a family winery in village Rvasji where you taste six wines and traditional Montenegrin food. A local guide leads the route, hotel pickup is included, and wine tasting is optional.

The experience

Six hours takes you from Podgorica through the limestone mountains that give Montenegro its name. You start in Cetinje, the spiritual and cultural heart of the country, where the old royal capital sits on a karst plain surrounded by peaks. The city itself reads as a museum of Montenegrin tradition, and from there the route climbs into Lovcen National Park to the Mausoleum of Bishop Prince Njegos, a vantage point where the mountains frame the coast below.

The second half of the day moves to Skadar Lake National Park. From Pavlova strana, the lake opens out like a fjord, and the drive down brings you to the village of Rvasji and a family winery still making wine by hand using recipes passed down through generations. If you choose the wine tasting, you try six wines (white semi-dry, barrel-aged, red dry and red semi-sweet), plus eight liqueurs and five brandies, all served with a Montenegrin plate of prosciutto, cheese, olives, seasonal salad and homemade pie or fried dough. The host explains each pour and the tradition behind it. Wine tasting is optional and not included in the base price, so you decide at booking whether to add it.

Your guide speaks English and travels with you the whole day in a comfortable vehicle. Hotel pickup and drop-off in Podgorica are included. The tour suits all fitness levels, and vegetarian food can be arranged if you let the operator know when you book.
