The experience
If you've just arrived in Montenegro or have a free afternoon, this tour threads together the places that shaped the country's identity. You start in Cetinje, the old capital, walking past the Cetinje Monastery, King Nicola's castle (now a museum), the Presidential Palace and the main pedestrian street. From there you drive inland to a village in a small valley where you taste traditional prosciutto, cheese and honey made locally: the kind of stop that shows how food and place are inseparable here. Then comes the road itself: 25 switchbacks descending toward the Bay of Kotor, each one opening a new angle on the water and the mountains.
The second half of the day is split between two coastal towns. In Kotor's Old Town you walk to the Square of Arms, Saint Tryphon Cathedral and the Maritime Museum, moving through the winding streets and past the citadel that overlooks the bay. Budva follows a similar rhythm (old churches, squares and a marina), but the two towns feel different enough that the contrast matters. The guide is with you the whole time, speaking English and pointing out how the wars and geography that divided medieval Montenegro left their marks on each place differently.
A standard sedan carries up to four passengers. Parking and all road fees are included. The day is long but the walking is moderate, and you set the pace through each town. Drinks and snacks during the tour are your choice to buy, as are any restaurant stops.
What’s included
- Drive in a standard sedan vehicle with parking and road fees.
- licensed English-speaking guide for the full 9 hours.
- hotel pickup.
- tastings of local prosciutto, cheese, honey and wine at the village stop.
