The boat leaves Virpazar and enters a winding river channel thick with greenery, then moves into a natural bird reserve where the water holds crested grebes, grey herons, cormorants and other species. The guide points out what you're seeing as you pass through small canals carved directly out of the reeds: a stretch where the landscape narrows and the sound of birds fills the quiet. Once you clear those channels, the lake opens into a vast floating garden of water lilies and white lotuses, depending on the season, with an unobstructed view across the water in all directions.

The tour circles three islands (Mala and Velika Cakovica and Kamenik) each one offering a different angle on the lake's wild edges. Bird-watching is built into the pace. You're moving slowly enough to listen to the sounds and watch for movement without rushing past. On the return to Virpazar, you have the choice to jump in and swim in the middle of the lake if you want that direct contact with the water.

Local wine and bottled water come with the booking. The guide speaks English throughout. The national park fee is included, so there's nothing to arrange at the dock. Infants sit on an adult's lap. The whole outing runs two hours.
