Step-by-step itinerary

Sunset boat tour on Lake Skadar

  • Start journey in Virpazar village
  • Boat ride to Lesendro fortress
  • Sail through three islands and channels
  • Enjoy wine and swim in lake

The experience

The boat leaves Virpazar, a small fishing village on Lake Skadar's shore, and heads toward Lesendro fortress, an ancient structure where birds dry their wings on the walls. The wooden čun, a traditional flat-bottomed boat, carries you across water that stays clear enough to swim in. Your guide narrates the journey in English or Serbian, pointing out the over 280 bird species that inhabit the lake and its surroundings.

From the fortress, the route turns toward the three islands called gorice, where narrow channels wind through lotus flowers and reeds. Wine and juice come aboard as the sun descends, and you're free to jump into the lake for a swim before the light fades. The combination of the boat's slow pace, the narrow passages through vegetation, and the timing of the sunset shapes the whole rhythm of the tour.

Life vests and safety gear are provided. You'll need to bring a swimsuit and towels. The operator does not arrange transportation to or from Virpazar, and parking is not available on-site. The National Park Lake Skadar entrance fee is included in the booking.

Is this one for you?Small groups work well on the wooden čun, and the two-hour window fits easily into an afternoon or evening in the region. If you want a guided experience on the water with wine and swimming rather than a land-based tour, this boat's narrow draft and traditional design let you reach the channels and islands that larger vessels can't access.
