The Experience

Most mornings in Cozumel, you're either on a crowded tour boat or you're not in the water at all. One real constraint: arrive thirty minutes before sailing, and if you're late, they leave without you. The local timezone matters too if you're coming from a cruise ship, so check that before you book. They're strict about timing because the reef windows are real — low tide, sun angle, turtle activity — and the schedule is built around those, not around stragglers.

One note on sunscreen: don't wear it. The reef-safe versions aren't proven harmless to marine life, and regular sunscreen makes the boat deck slippery. Bring a long-sleeve rash vest and a hat instead. It sounds like a hassle until you're in the water and realize you're not the person who burned their shoulders while everyone else stayed comfortable.
