Sea scooters let you cover twice the reef without the exhaustion.

Powered snorkeling in Cozumel pairs a sea scooter that propels you through the Caribbean with a guided reef exploration where you'll see tropical fish, soft corals, stingrays, and possibly manta rays and sea turtles. After returning to Monina Restaurant, you taste flavored tequila made locally, watch a Mayan dance, and sample homemade chocolate and salsas. The whole experience runs three hours.

The experience

You arrive at Monina Restaurant where the crew walks you through the sea scooter controls and snorkeling safety before you enter the water. The scooter does the work. You steer and hold on while it pulls you across the reef at your own pace, letting you see far more of the marine life than you would swimming alone. The Caribbean waters around Cozumel fill with schools of fish, soft coral formations, stingrays, and if you're lucky, manta rays, moray eels, or sea turtles moving through the same space.

Once you're back on shore and rinsed off, the second half shifts to land. A Mayan dance performance welcomes you, then you move into the tequila tasting: several homemade flavors from Mexico, each one explained. Between tastings come samples of chocolate made on-site and three kinds of salsas: mango, tamarind, and others. The restaurant is where you finish, and transport back there is included.

What’s included

  • Snorkeling equipment and sea scooter use.
  • lunch.
  • air-conditioned vehicle transport.
