The experience

The class runs about four hours total, split between cooking and eating. If you book the morning session, you'll go to the market first to pick seasonal, local ingredients. You can customize what goes into your dishes based on what's available and what you want to eat. The afternoon class skips the market and starts straight at the location, so you'll tell the chef about your preferences and any allergies when you book. Either way, you're working in a charming private apartment inside Palazzo Asmundo, a 17th-century building that sits directly across from Palermo Cathedral.

You'll spend roughly three hours making pasta by hand under the chef's instruction, tasting local wines and food products as you work. The menu changes with what the suppliers have that day: caponata, fresh pasta shapes, seasonal vegetables, and a Sicilian dessert are typical. After you finish cooking, you sit down to a full meal of everything you've made, served with wine and water, coffee or tea. If the group doesn't reach its minimum, you can pay extra for a private class or reschedule to another day.

At the end you'll get a certificate signed by the chef and the option to buy a cookbook. The class runs in English, Spanish, Italian or French, and children from age 2 are welcome. Vegetarian options are available if you let the chef know when you book.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Spanish, French and Italian.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (2 to 12 years).

Can I choose what pasta shapes we make in the class?

You'll make three different types of Sicilian pasta chosen by the chef based on the season and what's available that day. The menu varies, so you'll get the planned dishes when you book. If you have specific preferences or dietary needs, tell the chef at booking and they'll work with you on what's possible.

What happens if I book the morning class? Do I really go to the market?

Yes, the morning session includes a trip to the local market to buy the day's ingredients. You can choose and customize your meal based on what you see there and what you want to eat. The afternoon class doesn't go to the market because it's closed, so you'll meet straight at the palazzo apartment and tell the chef your preferences ahead of time.

Is the meal included, or do I pay extra for lunch?

Lunch or dinner is included in the class price. You eat everything you've made during the cooking session, served with local wine, water, coffee and tea, all together in the palazzo apartment or outside if the weather is good.

How many people will be in the class with me?

The class is limited to 12 people to keep it intimate. If the group doesn't reach its minimum for the day you pick, you can pay an extra fee to make it a private class or choose a different date.

What's the view like from the cooking location?

You'll be cooking and eating in a private apartment inside Palazzo Asmundo, a 17th-century building that faces Palermo Cathedral directly. You'll have views of the cathedral from inside the house or from outside if you eat outdoors.
