Cook filo, feta parcels and baklava, then sit down to the meal you made

A hands-on cooking class in Mykonos where you learn to prepare traditional Greek and Cycladic dishes in a local home, then enjoy the meal you've cooked together over wine. Angelina, a food blogger and member of the Mykonos Gastronomic Club, teaches you how to work with filo dough, make savory and sweet dishes, and understand island gastronomy using local, seasonal ingredients. The class runs three hours and includes the full meal you prepare. A market tour add-on lets you shop with Angelina first.

The experience

You'll spend the afternoon in Angelina's home kitchen learning to make both savory and sweet Cycladic dishes. Start with filo work (feta parcels with honey and sesame, or spanakopita if fresh spinach is available), and move on to baklava or sticky walnut cake. For the main course, Angelina walks you through shrimp saganaki in tomato sauce with feta, grilled calamari with basil pesto orzo, or a vegetarian option if that's what you prefer. She hands you the tools and shows you the techniques, talking through how modest local ingredients build deeply satisfying meals. An ouzo sits nearby as you work.

Once the cooking is done, you sit down to eat what you've made: a Greek meze platter with taramasolata, fried cheese and tzatziki; the spanakopita or feta parcels you prepared; a Greek salad; the main dish; and the dessert. Local wine comes with the meal. If you add the market tour, you'll spend 45 minutes beforehand exploring Mykonos's open-air fishmongers and farmers markets with Angelina, picking out fresh fish if available, seasonal vegetables, and stopping at local shops for bread, cheeses and meze ingredients, so you'll know where the ingredients came from before you cook with them.

For groups of two to four, the class happens in Angelina's home in Chora. It's a five- to ten-minute walk from the Sea Bus or taxi drop-off. Groups of five or more are hosted at her Lia home, and return transportation is included. Angelina teaches in English and Greek, and she's available only from May through October, with limited availability during those months.
