Summary

Sinai desert quad biking camel ride Bedouin tea & echo mountain

You’ll ride quad bikes across Sinai’s wild desert from Sharm El Sheikh with a local guide, shout your name at Echo Mountain, sip Bedouin tea in a traditional tent, and try balancing atop a camel (good luck). Hotel pickup is included—just bring your sense of humor and maybe sunglasses you won’t lose.

experience

What’s the experience like?

We almost missed our pickup because I couldn’t find my sunglasses — classic. Our driver waited patiently outside the hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, barely blinking when we finally rushed out. The drive into the South Sinai desert was quieter than I expected; just sand and those mountains in the distance, everything kind of golden and flat. At the quad station, our guide Mustafa greeted us with a grin and handed out helmets. He went over the controls twice for me (I must’ve looked nervous), but honestly, it was easier than I thought once we started moving.

The quad bikes kicked up so much dust it got into my teeth — not complaining though, it felt weirdly good to taste the desert like that. We followed Mustafa along winding sandy trails, engines buzzing under us. Every now and then he’d point at something — a lizard skittering across or some plant whose name I forgot immediately. When we reached Echo Mountain, he told us to shout our names; hearing my own voice bounce back made me laugh harder than I expected. There’s something about that dry air that makes everything sharper — even sounds.

I didn’t expect to enjoy sitting in a Bedouin tent as much as I did. The tea was hot and herbal (I think sage?), poured from a battered pot by a woman who smiled but didn’t say much. Mustafa explained bits of Bedouin life while we sat cross-legged on faded rugs. Someone’s phone went off with pop music — totally broke the spell for a second, but it made everyone laugh. The camel ride after that was… well, let’s just say camels have opinions about who climbs on them first.

On the way back, the sun had started dropping behind the mountains and everything looked softer somehow — less harsh than when we set out. My hands were gritty from the handlebars and my hair smelled like dust and tea mixed together. I still think about that echo sometimes; how small you feel out there but also kind of wide open at the same time.
