The Experience

I’ll be honest — I thought riding a quad bike in the Sinai would just be loud and dusty, but there’s this weird hush out there, even with engines rumbling. Our guide Ahmed kept grinning at my sand-splattered face and pointed out these tiny purple flowers peeking through the dunes. We stopped at a Bedouin tent (I almost tripped getting off the bike), and the tea they handed us was smoky-sweet — tasted like sage and something else I still can’t place. The old man pouring it didn’t say much but his smile was warmer than the sun. I tried to say thank you in Arabic; got a laugh for my efforts.

After that, we swapped sand for sea. The wind changed — suddenly salty, cooler, with gulls screeching overhead. Parasailing over the Red Sea is… well, it’s not what I expected. My heart was thumping so hard I could barely hear anything else up there. You see the water turn all these wild blues beneath you, boats darting around like toys. Coming down felt way too quick (but maybe that’s just me). Then we did banana boat and tube rides — which are pure chaos if you’re with friends who think falling in is hilarious.

The glass-bottom boat was slower, quieter — kids pressed against the glass pointing at fish I couldn’t name. Lunch came next: buffet by the beach, nothing fancy but after all that adrenaline even plain rice tasted good. There’s this moment when you’re just sitting there with wet hair and sand everywhere, watching sunlight flicker on the water… It sticks with me more than any photo could.
