The experience
Six hundred years ago, Shui Jing Street in Chengdu held a wine shop with a front counter and a back workshop, and the aroma has never left. You walk through the ruins of that original distillery and watch the Shui Jing Fang team recreate the traditional brewing technique that has survived six centuries. A professional guide leads you through the production floor, explaining how Chinese Baijiu is distilled from sorghum or maize and why the process matters: the difference between naturally fermented grain liquor and anything with added alcohol or flavorings is what "original" means here.
The tasting puts Baijiu in context. You smell five aroma samples, then taste the Shui Jing Fang original and compare it directly to vodka, gin, whisky and cognac. The guide walks you through what makes each one distinct: fermentation method, grain source, aging, the role of time. Baijiu has accompanied Chinese weddings and birthdays for more than 6,000 years. This hour shows you why the craft still matters.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, Korean, Chinese and Japanese.
How long does the Baijiu tasting experience take?
The experience runs for one hour, including the distillery walk-through, production floor observation, and the tasting with aroma samples.
What exactly is original Baijiu and how is it different from other versions?
Original Baijiu is naturally fermented liquor made solidly from pure grains with no added alcohol or flavorings. The Shui Jing Fang distillery produces this unadulterated version using the same technique they have refined over 600 years, distilling from sorghum or maize rather than mixing in neutral spirits.
Do I get to taste the Baijiu by itself, or only in comparison to other spirits?
You taste the Shui Jing Fang original Baijiu on its own and then compare it directly to vodka, gin, whisky and cognac. You also smell five aroma samples to understand the flavor profile before and during the tasting.
What is Shui Jing Street and why does it matter for this experience?
Shui Jing Street in Chengdu's Dongmen district was the earliest CBD and held the first wine shop with a working brewery 600 years ago. The intoxicating aroma of fermentation has drifted along that street for the entire six centuries since, and the ruins of that original distillery are part of the experience you visit.
