The Experience
Your guide meets you at your Chengdu hotel and takes you by public transport to the train station. The high-speed railway carries you to Leshan in comfort—no traffic, no delays—and the route passes seasonal landscapes: yellow rapeseed fields in spring, crimson harvests in autumn. Once you arrive, private transport takes you straight to Giant Buddha Park.
The climb begins with 300 steps up Lingyun Hill, a 20 to 30 minute walk past ancient stone carvings and Buddhist sculptures. From the top, you stand above the three rivers that converge in front of the Leshan Giant Buddha. Then you descend along the red sand cliff road to view the statue from its base—a perspective most visitors miss—and climb up the opposite side of the hill. During busy seasons, queues to descend can stretch past an hour; if that happens, your guide can arrange a river cruise instead (120 RMB per person, your own cost) to see the Buddha from the water.
After the Buddha, you explore the old neighborhood of Leshan city. Your guide stops at time-honored restaurants and snack vendors, introduces dishes and snacks you've likely never encountered, and you taste them. Lunch is at an authentic local restaurant, included in the tour. The day ends with private transport back to Leshan station, the high-speed train to Chengdu, and hotel drop-off.

What is the Leshan Giant Buddha and what will I see there?
The Leshan Giant Buddha is a 1,300-year-old stone statue carved into a cliff face.
