The experience
How do you actually make a baozi? The class starts at a lively spice market where you hunt down the ingredients that go into Sichuan cooking: completing fun challenges as you learn which spices and flavors define the region. You'll then move to a traditional Sichuan-style courtyard, where you're treated to local tea the way locals offer it to guests and visitors. After that comes the kitchen: a professional chef walks you through the whole process of crafting baozi dough, filling it, and steaming it until the buns are soft and ready to eat.
The class runs 4 hours total and wraps with you sitting down to eat the baozi you made, paired with beer or another beverage of your choice. Everything is included: the market tour, the tea, all the ingredients you'll need, and the meal itself. Your guide speaks English and can answer questions as you work. Kids as young as five can join, and vegetarian options are available if you let the operator know when you book.
What’s included
- Light refreshments and tea.
- all food ingredients for the baozi.
- lunch or dinner based on your class time.
- beer or other beverages.
- an English-speaking guide throughout the 4 hours.

Is this one for you?Small groups work well here since the kitchen is cozy and the chef guides everyone through the same steps at once. Book this if you want to actually make something with your hands and eat it the same day, rather than just watch a demonstration or take a tour of a restaurant kitchen.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Chinese and Chinese.
What exactly happens at the spice market at the start of the class?
The spice market is where you explore Sichuan ingredients in person and complete fun challenges to learn which spices and flavors are central to the region's cooking. You're not just walking through. You're actively hunting down and identifying the ingredients that will go into the baozi you make later.
Do I get to eat the baozi I make, or is it just for show?
You eat the baozi you make. After the cooking is done, you sit down and enjoy your handmade steamed buns with your choice of beer or another beverage included in the class.
Is this class suitable for children, or is it really only for adults?
Children can join. The minimum age is five years old. The hands-on format and the challenges at the market make it engaging for families, though younger kids will need to be comfortable in a kitchen setting and following along with the chef's instructions.
What's included in the price, and what do I need to bring or pay extra for?
The class includes the market tour, all food ingredients, the tea service, lunch or dinner depending on when your class runs, beverages or beer, and the guide. You don't need to bring anything except comfortable walking shoes and your passport details for the booking. Gratuities are not included.
