The experience
You'll soar through the rainforest canopy on seven separate zipline runs, each one a different angle through the trees and over rivers. The longest stretches about the length of a football field, and on the fastest you'll hit speeds of 30 to 35 mph before the braking system slows you down at the end. Between runs, stay alert for black howler monkeys. They're often relaxing in the canopy nearby and their calls carry across the treetops.
The guide handles all the safety setup and leads you through each run at a pace that works for families and mixed-ability groups. Helmets and full safety gear come with the activity. You'll travel in an air-conditioned vehicle between stops, and bottled water is provided throughout the day. If the rum factory is closed (it shuts on Sundays and certain Belizean holidays), the guide substitutes a full tour of both the north and south sides of Belize City, with stops to photograph historic sites.
Hotel pickup is included, and the whole experience runs about a half-day, making it realistic for travelers short on time. The activity suits all ages from seven up, though it does require at least moderate physical fitness.
