Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Maya ruins, cave tubing, and zipline
- Visit Altun Ha Maya Temple
- Walk to cave tubing entrance
- Float through limestone cave system
- Zipline above tropical forest canopy
The experience
Altun Ha sits closest to Belize City of any excavated Maya temple, and your guide walks you through the temples, plazas, and trade routes that made it a center of ancient commerce. The site opens onto wide spaces where you can read the layout of the city before moving on to the cave system.
The cave-tubing section starts with a forest walk and safety briefing, then you float on an inner tube through the limestone passages. Inside, crystalline formations line the walls, and stalagmites and stalactites rise and fall through the chambers: the Maya called this the underworld, Xibalba. The water carries you through in silence, the only sound the drip of the cave itself.
The zipline course finishes the day at canopy level. You push off from a wooden platform and move along aerial cables between stops, with a guide waiting at each one to help you transition. One crossing is a hammock bridge suspended almost 120 feet above the forest floor. From there, the tangled forest falls away and opens to sky. The whole experience runs eight hours from pickup to return, with water, sodas, juices, and lunch included throughout.

Is this one for you?The guide speaks English and leads the whole group together, so you follow the same pace through all three sites. Moderate fitness helps (you'll walk through the temple grounds, float through the cave, and move between zipline platforms), but the guide adjusts the experience to the group's comfort level.
