Private Austrian Cooking Class Vienna: Market & Three-Course Meal
Shop Vienna’s Naschmarkt then cook and share a homemade Austrian feast with wine and stories
A private cooking class in Vienna where you cook a three-course Austrian meal—seasonal soup, schnitzel and strudel—in a local's home after touring the Naschmarkt with Andrea, a Viennese host. The class runs 2.5 hours hands-on in her kitchen, includes a glass of bubbly and local wine, and ends with you sitting down to eat what you've made. Andrea speaks English, Spanish, French and German, and can accommodate dietary needs if you mention them when booking.
The Experience
Start at Vienna's Naschmarkt, the city's famous produce market, where Andrea walks you through the stalls, introduces you to local vendors, and lets you taste a few things before you head to her home. The market tour sets the rhythm for the class—you see where the ingredients come from, meet the people who sell them, and understand what makes Austrian cooking work. Then you take the bus to her place in the heart of Vienna.
The cooking class itself runs 2.5 hours. Andrea opens with a glass of bubbly while she walks you through the menu for the day, then you move into the kitchen together. You make a seasonal soup (pumpkin, sweet chestnut or cucumber depending on what's in season), the iconic Wiener Schnitzel with potato salad, and a strudel—apple, apricot, plum or pear. These are the dishes you can't miss in Vienna, and you learn them from scratch, not from a demonstration. Your hands do the work. When the cooking is done, you sit down to eat the three courses you've made, with local wine and the stories Andrea shares about living in Vienna.
If your group has seven or more people, Andrea hosts the class in a spacious cooking studio near the market instead of her home, so there's room for everyone to work comfortably. Dietary needs—lactose-free, gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan—can be arranged if you let her know at booking. You can choose whether to do the market tour and cooking with lunch or with dinner; both options include the bubbly, wine and the three-course meal you've prepared.

Is this one for you?Book the lunch option if you want to eat earlier in the day and have the afternoon free; choose dinner if you prefer a later start and want to spend more time in the market before cooking. Either way, the class fits into a single afternoon or evening without rushing, and Andrea adjusts the pacing to your group's speed in the kitchen.

What exactly do I cook in the Austrian cooking class?
You prepare a three-course meal: a seasonal soup (pumpkin, sweet chestnut or cucumber), Wiener Schnitzel with potato salad, and a strudel in whatever fruit is in season. All of it is made from scratch during the 2.5-hour hands-on class in Andrea's kitchen.
How does the Naschmarkt tour work before the cooking class?
Andrea guides you through Vienna's famous Naschmarkt, where you meet local vendors, see the produce and delicacies they sell, and taste a few items. After the market tour, you take the bus to her home to begin the cooking class.
Can I do this cooking class if I'm vegetarian or have other dietary restrictions?
Yes. Andrea can accommodate lactose-free, gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan diets if you let her know at the time of booking, so mention your needs when you reserve.
What languages does Andrea speak?
Andrea teaches the class in English, Spanish, French or German, so you can book in whichever language works for you.
Do I choose lunch or dinner for this class?
You pick one at checkout: the market tour and cooking class with lunch, or the market tour and cooking class with dinner. Both options include the same three-course meal you've cooked, plus a glass of bubbly and local wine.
What if I'm traveling with young children?
Infants and small children can come along in a pram or stroller. Andrea lives with her daughter and their two-year-old Tibetan Terrier, Finya, so the home is set up for families. If your group has seven or more people, the class moves to a spacious cooking studio instead, which also works well for groups with children.
