The experience

The day starts with pickup from your hotel around 7:30 am, then a drive to the Cu Chi Tunnels about an hour outside the city. Once there, a short video sets the context before you move through the tunnel system itself. You'll see the narrow passageways, wartime living quarters, and the ingenuity that kept people sheltered underground during the war. Entering the tunnels is optional. Many travelers do, though the passages are tight and the experience is physically real, not staged. By noon you're back at ground level with a Vietnamese lunch at a local restaurant, giving you time to rest before the afternoon shift to the Mekong Delta.

The Mekong leg moves at a different pace. You board a boat and drift past stilt houses and the river's working landscape, then pull into a coconut candy workshop where you watch the process and taste the result. Tropical fruits and local honey tea come next. The sweetness is real and the break is genuine. Then comes the sampan ride, a narrow wooden boat poled through palm-lined canals so tight the branches brush the sides. This is where the river slows down completely. The villages along the water are still working, not museum pieces, and you move through them at the speed of a pole and a current. By late afternoon the minivan collects you for the drive back, arriving at your hotel around 7 pm.
