The experience
Your day starts with a pickup from your hotel in District 1 and a drive to Cu Chi, about an hour outside the city. At the tunnels, your English-speaking guide walks you through the historic underground network (bunkers, living quarters, and passages dug during the war), and explains how people survived and fought below ground. You crawl through a section yourself to get a sense of the tight, claustrophobic conditions. The tunnels are the main reason most visitors book this tour, and the guide's knowledge of the wartime history is what makes the difference between a quick look and actually understanding what you're standing inside.
After the tunnels, you head to My Tho and the Mekong Delta for the second half of the day. You eat a traditional Vietnamese lunch by the river (vegan options are available), and then board a motorboat to cruise the main waterway before switching to a rowboat for the narrow, palm-lined canals. You visit a local bee farm to taste fresh tropical fruits and honey tea, and watch a performance of traditional Southern Vietnamese folk music by villagers. The boat rides let you see stilt houses, everyday river life, and the landscape that has shaped the region for generations, all at a pace that lets you actually take it in.
The full-day option runs about 10 hours door-to-door. You're traveling in an air-conditioned vehicle between the two sites, and the boat sections break up the day. A bottle of water and fresh fruit are included. The tour ends with drop-off back at your hotel in central Ho Chi Minh City.
Is this one for you?Book the full-day tour if you want both the tunnels and the delta in one trip. Choose the half-day option if you're leaving the city by early afternoon.
