You enter Joshua Tree National Park through one of the main paved entrances and drive through the park's signature highlights before turning onto Geology Tour Road. This is the route that sets this tour apart: it's the only place within the park where Pinto Gneiss, White Tank Monzogranite, and the Basalt formation of Malpai Hill all appear, giving you the full geological story of the Mojave Desert in a single afternoon. The road itself is unpaved, which is why the offroad vehicle matters—it gets you to spots that regular cars can't reach.

The guide provides live commentary throughout the 5 hours, explaining the rock formations, the desert ecology, and the plant and animal life you pass.
