The experience
Most people come to Joshua Tree to hike around the boulders and see them from the outside. This activity takes you inside the rock itself. You'll move through narrow slot passages, cathedral-like chambers, and natural rock corridors carved into the granite formations: places that most visitors never know exist. Your guide leads you through a sequence of named secret locations, each one chosen for its character and sense of discovery: passages like the Chasm of Doom, Hall of Horrors, Misdirect, Mad Hatter, and the Great Chasm. Summit Climbing Guides is the only guide service in Joshua Tree offering Caves and Corridors as a dedicated experience, and the only one with the Summit Squeeze Scale, a custom rating system that tells you exactly how tight each passage gets before you commit.
The 4-hour experience is built around scrambling, not climbing: no prior rock experience is required. Your guide selects the route based on your group's comfort level and physical fitness, so the passages you move through match what everyone in the group can handle. Groups stay at 4 maximum, which means your guide can give individual attention and adjust the day as you go. All safety equipment is provided, including a helmet and harness if needed. The only thing you need to bring is water and snacks. The park entrance fee is separate.
