The experience

Your guide picks you up early and drives to Materuni village, nestled under Mount Kilimanjaro's slopes. A morning hike through tropical rainforest leads to the waterfall itself. You'll see coffee plantations and banana groves along the way, then swim in the waterfall pool if weather permits. The trail can be slippery, so wear good hiking shoes.

After the hike, you move into the coffee experience. A local guide walks you through how coffee grows from seed to cup, and you join in the roasting and preparation process alongside traditional dances and songs. This takes about an hour, and ends with fresh coffee and a lunch buffet with seasonal fruits served in the village.

The afternoon shifts to Chemka Hotspring (also called Kikuletwa), a two-hour drive away. The spring sits surrounded by palm and fig trees with crystal-clear water. Small fish offer a natural foot massage as you soak. You'll have a few hours to swim, relax at the bar with a beer or soft drink, and chat before the drive back to your hotel or airport in the late afternoon. The whole day runs nine to twelve hours depending on traffic and how long you linger at each stop.
