The Experience
The moment you step into the cacao grove at Rabot Estate, you're standing in what Hotel Chocolat actually grows — not a display, but the working farm where the chocolate you'll make later comes from. Your guide walks you through the trees, shows you how a pod splits open, and lets you taste the white pulp inside a freshly-cut one. It's nothing like chocolate yet. Then comes the grafting part, which sounds technical but feels more like gardening — you're learning the actual skill that keeps these trees alive and producing.
After the grove, you move into the chocolate-making space. You craft your own bar from cacao grown right there on the estate, which is the kind of detail that sticks with you — you're not just tasting chocolate, you're holding something you made from beans you saw growing an hour earlier. The whole Tree to Bar experience runs about 2.5 hours, and it's paced so you're not rushed through any part of it. Lunch arrives mid-experience, served street-food style with things like the Cacao Burger and Cacao Beer-Battered Fish & Chips, plus fresh local produce and their famous soft-serve Ice Cream of the Gods. You can eat before the tour starts if you want to get straight into the grove, or linger after and eat overlooking the rainforest and the UNESCO World Heritage Site below.
The retail floor at the end is where you can pick up more chocolate, cacao beauty products, or cacao-infused spirits to take home — but that's optional. What matters is that you leave with the bar you made and a sense of how cacao actually becomes chocolate, which is something most people never get to see.
What’s included
Your experience includes a guided tour of the cacao groves where you'll learn to graft a cacao tree, a hands-on chocolate-making session where you craft your own bar from estate-grown cacao, lunch served street-food style with cacao-infused dishes like the Cacao Burger and beer-battered fish and chips, fresh local produce, soft-serve ice cream, and tastings of chocolate made on the Rabot Estate.
Operated by Project Chocolat from Hotel Chocolat
Is this one for you?Book this if you want to understand where chocolate actually comes from and have a hand in making it — the 2.5-hour format means you're not spending a full day, and the rainforest setting plus the lunch inclusion make it a complete experience rather than just a class.
