Beyond the main attractions, the tour includes sites most travelers skip: Thuparamaya, the first stupa built in Sri Lanka and housing a sacred relic of the Buddha; the Brazen Palace, a nine-story monastic structure from the 2nd century BC with bronze roof tiles; the Samadhi Buddha statue in Mahamevnāwa Park, a 7-foot marble carving in meditation pose; and the Twin Ponds (Kuttam Pokuna), ancient bathing tanks that show the advanced engineering of the Anuradhapura Kingdom.
