The experience
The tour starts with a 20-minute transfer from your hotel to the Monumento al Campesino, a 15-meter sculpture César Manrique built in the geographical center of Lanzarote to honor the island's peasant farmers. From there, the route heads south through La Geria, a volcanic wine region where vineyards grow in impossible-looking terrain. You stop at a working cellar to taste the local wine, then move on to Echadero de los Camellos, where you can either walk for 20 minutes on a camel's back or visit a small museum about the animals' history on the island.
The centerpiece is Timanfaya National Park: the Montañas del Fuego, or Mountains of Fire. These red craters and lava fields are the result of eruptions that lasted six years between 1730 and 1736, covering 200 square kilometers. Your guide explains the geology while you walk the lunar landscape, and you see geothermal demonstrations that show how hot the earth still is beneath the surface. The tour ends at El Golfo, a volcanic crater lake with water so green it looks unreal, about 20 minutes' drive from Timanfaya.
An air-conditioned vehicle carries the group throughout, and your guide speaks English or Spanish. Because entry to Timanfaya is arranged in advance, you skip the ticket line at the gate. The whole day is structured so you move between stops without gaps or waits, which matters on an island where afternoon tours can lose hours to crowds.

What exactly is the Laguna Verde at El Golfo?
El Golfo is a volcanic crater that has filled with seawater, creating a lagoon so intensely green it appears almost artificial. The color comes from algae in the shallow water. It sits at the southern tip of the island and is one of Lanzarote's most photographed spots.
Can I choose not to ride the camel?
Yes. At Echadero de los Camellos, you can either take a 20-minute camel ride or visit the small museum about camels' role in Lanzarote's history. Both options are available to everyone on the tour.

No. The tour includes wine tasting at the cellar in La Geria and geothermal demonstrations at Timanfaya, but not a meal. You'll have time to eat before or after the tour depending on your hotel location and the departure time.

What did César Manrique design on this tour?
