The experience
Timanfaya National Park opens the day with its volcanic landscape: you'll see the lava rocks and watch geothermal experiments that show the heat still trapped beneath the island's surface. From there the route heads north, stopping at Mirador del Río for views across the water, then descending into Jameos del Agua, where an underground freshwater lake sits inside a cave system that César Manrique transformed into a concert venue and garden. The final stop is Cueva de los Verdes, a limestone cave carved by lava flows, with its own network of passages to walk through.
The tour runs seven to eight hours total, with an air-conditioned vehicle carrying the group between sites and a certified guide explaining what you're seeing at each stop. Entry tickets to Timanfaya, Jameos del Agua, and Cueva de los Verdes are all included in the booking. The return journey follows the coastal road back to your accommodation, so you see the island's geography as well as its volcanic interior.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French and German.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (2 to 11 years); Infant (under 2): free.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What exactly is Timanfaya National Park and what do you do there?
Timanfaya is a volcanic landscape of lava fields and craters formed by eruptions in the 18th century. You walk among the lava rocks and observe geothermal experiments that demonstrate the heat still present underground, giving a direct sense of the volcanic forces that shaped the island.
What is Jameos del Agua and why is it worth visiting?
Jameos del Agua is a series of caves created by lava flows, featuring an underground freshwater lagoon inside a cavern. César Manrique designed it as a concert venue and botanical garden, so you descend into a space that combines natural geology with artistic intervention.
Is Cueva de los Verdes different from Jameos del Agua?
Yes. Cueva de los Verdes is a limestone cave system also carved by ancient lava, but it remains a natural cave network without the artistic development or underground lake that Jameos del Agua has. You walk through its passages to see the geological formations.
How much walking and climbing is involved in this tour?
The tour suits all physical fitness levels according to the operator. Each site involves some walking (through the lava fields at Timanfaya, down into the caves at Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes), but the pace is set by the guide and the group, and you're not required to cover extreme distances or tackle steep terrain.
