The experience
You board the sailboat at the Port of Corralejo and sail toward Lobos Island, a small volcanic rock formation about 6 square kilometers across. The route takes you past the Bocaina Canal (a five-kilometer strait between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote where the water stays shallower than 10 meters), and gives you a view of the Corralejo Dunes National Park from the water. The Caldera Volcano, one of the best-preserved craters in the islands with a 70-meter-deep crater, rises from Lobos itself and is most striking when seen from the sea.
Once anchored on the south side of Lobos Island, you have time to swim, snorkel, try a kayak, or paddleboard in the transparent water. The snorkel gear, fins, kayak and stand-up paddle board are all provided. A light lunch with beverages comes during the anchoring time, so you eat and rest between water activities. The crew brings bottled water, coffee and tea as well.
The group stays mixed (families, friends and solo travelers share the boat), and the atmosphere is relaxed rather than rushed. If you're an experienced sailor, the captain can guide you on improving your technique while the boat is underway. The tour runs four hours total and ends back at Corralejo Port where you started.
