itinerary

Step-by-step itinerary

Day 1 — Catamaran cruise to Pozo Negro Cove

  • Depart from Caleta de Fuste
  • Sail towards Pozo Negro Cove
  • Spot whales, dolphins, or turtles
  • Anchor at Pozo Negro Cove
  • Swim, snorkel, or sunbathe
  • Enjoy onboard lunch and drinks
  • Sail back to Caleta de Fuste

I was honestly expecting the usual tourist boat vibe when we left Caleta de Fuste, but it felt more like sneaking away with friends. The crew—Miguel and Ana—knew everyone’s name by the first hour, which made it weirdly comfortable. There was this salty wind that kept blowing my hat off (I gave up after the second time), and someone pointed out a couple of dolphins way off to the right. I squinted forever but only caught a fin—still, you could hear people laughing about it for ages.

The water near Pozo Negro is so clear you can see your own feet dangling off the side of the catamaran, which is both cool and slightly unnerving if you’re not used to it. We anchored near this little cove where a fisherman waved at us from his boat—he looked like he’d been doing that all his life. Jumping in was colder than I thought (it wakes you up fast), but floating there, hearing nothing but splashing and some Spanish pop from the deck speakers, felt pretty unreal. The main keyword here is relaxation—I didn’t even check my phone once.

Lunch was paella cooked right there on board, with wrinkled potatoes and mojo sauce that stained my fingers orange (worth it). I tried saying “papas arrugadas” like Ana taught me—she laughed and said I sounded Canarian already, which is definitely not true but made me feel good anyway. Beer tasted extra cold after swimming. The ride back was quieter; people just stretched out on deck or watched the coastline slide by in that late-afternoon haze. I still think about how easy everything felt out there.
