The experience

The Aphrodite leaves Morro Jable and carries you around the volcanic edge of Fuerteventura under sail. Built by hand in Turkey, the schooner has a spacious deck where you can sit in the sun or move into shade as the wind and the island's outline shift. The crossing takes four hours, and the route follows the Atlantic-facing coastline where the water stays clear enough to see down.

Partway through, you stop to swim. The crew lowers you into the water and waits while you float in the open sea off the volcanic rock. When you climb back aboard, the chef has prepared lunch, a menu that changes, and the bar stays open for the rest of the sail. Drinks flow throughout the day: water, sodas, beer, wine, whatever you want.

Pickup is arranged from your hotel, and the guide on board speaks your language: English, Spanish, Italian, French, or one of the other languages the crew carries. The boat has a restroom, and the deck is air-conditioned below if the sun gets too much. Infants travel in a pram or stroller, and service animals are welcome.
