The experience

The morning starts with a walk through Barranco, Lima's bohemian quarter, where art galleries, restaurants and boulevards line the boardwalk. From there you move into Miraflores, the modern coastal district, passing through Love Park to see the Pacific before arriving at the restaurant where the classes happen. The boardwalk tour sets the neighborhood context (the places where Lima's food culture actually lives) before you step into the kitchen.

Once at the restaurant, you learn to make pisco sour first: the lemon, egg, sugar and pisco go into your hands, not a demonstration glass. After the cocktail class, you move into the cooking class to prepare a traditional Peruvian main course. Both are taught by someone who speaks Spanish and English, and both happen in a restaurant with a view of the sea. The instruction is hands-on, not a demo. You're the one mixing and cooking, not standing behind someone else.

Lunch arrives after the classes end: the pisco sour you made becomes the appetizer, the dish you cooked is the main course, and the meal includes a starter, dessert and a drink.
