The experience
What sets this apart from a quick day trip is the overnight homestay. You arrive on Amantani around midday, settle into a private room in a local family's house, and share a home-cooked lunch made with island products. In the afternoon, you hike to the upper part of the island to visit either Pachamama or Pachatata temple. Weather permitting, you watch the sunset from there. Depending on how the community organizes that evening, you may join a small cultural gathering with traditional music and dances. The next morning, after a family breakfast, you board the boat for Taquile.
Day one starts at Puno's port. The boat crosses Lake Titicaca to the Uros Floating Islands, where you step onto islands handmade entirely from totora reeds. A local family and your bilingual guide explain how the islands are built and maintained, how people live there, and what their boats and homes look like. You walk on the floating surface, take photos and interact with residents. A second, shorter stop on another island gives you another angle on the lake and access to basic services if you want them. A traditional reed boat ride and local purchases are optional.
On day two, you arrive at Taquile around 11:00 a.m. Local residents demonstrate music, dances and textile art, sharing how these traditions shape the island's identity and community. You take a moderate walk along the island's paths at a relaxed pace, with time for natural viewpoints and photos. Lunch is a local meal with a lake view, prepared with island products. After eating, you walk down to the port, board the boat and return to Puno.

What exactly are the Uros Floating Islands made of?
The Uros Floating Islands are built entirely from totora reeds, a plant that grows in Lake Titicaca. Is the sunset hike on Amantani guaranteed?
The hike to Pachamama or Pachatata temple happens in the afternoon, weather permitting. The temple sits on the upper part of the island, and the sunset view from there is one of the highlights, but conditions on the day determine whether you get the full experience.
What kind of physical fitness do I need for this tour?
