The experience
The tour starts on the Uros Floating Islands, where the Uros people have built and lived on approximately 120 self-made islands for generations. You'll walk through these reed constructions, visit local families in their homes, and have the chance to dress in traditional clothing to experience their way of life firsthand. A traditional totora reed boat ride is available if you want it (20 Soles per person, separate cost).
Day one ends on Amantani Island, where local families welcome you with an Andean lunch they've prepared. After settling into basic lodging in their homes, you'll hike uphill for about an hour to the island's summit. There you'll see the Inca temples Pachamama and Pachatata before watching the sunset over the lake. Dinner and a traditional welcome party with the families follow, giving you an evening immersed in island culture.
Day two starts early at 8 am, with a boat crossing to Taquile Island. A scenic hike along narrow paths lined with ancient agricultural terraces leads to the main square, where you'll see the island's renowned textile art and watch weavers at work: traditions UNESCO recognizes as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Lunch features local specialties with panoramic lake views. From there, you return to Puno by boat, then travel by car about an hour to Sillustani, a pre-Incan burial site on a peninsula surrounded by Umayo Lake. A walk to the summit reveals the towering chullpas, some reaching 10 meters, built by the Colla civilization and later used by the Incas as elite burial chambers.

Is this one for you?Choose this tour if you want to experience Lake Titicaca's islands without splitting your time across multiple separate bookings: the fixed itinerary fits all four major sites into a single 2-day trip. The overnight stay on Amantani with a local family is what lets you join the evening welcome party and watch the sunset from the island's summit, moments you'd miss on a day trip. Bring a light 2-day pack and mineral water. The uphill hike on Amantani and basic facilities on the island require moderate fitness and preparation.
