The experience

Pickup happens at your Puno City Center hotel in the morning, and an English-speaking guide travels with you to the lake. Uros comes first: a cluster of inhabited islands whose buildings are constructed entirely of tortora reeds, home to a small community with roots in pre-Inca times. You spend time with the local residents before the boat continues to Taquile, an island whose culture reflects Aymara traditions from across the border in Bolivia.

Lunch is served on Taquile itself: a locally prepared meal included in the tour price. After eating, you visit the local weavers' cooperative to watch skilled craftspeople at work, seeing firsthand the techniques that have defined the island's culture. All entrance fees are covered, so there are no surprises at the gate.

The return journey takes you back across the lake to Puno, arriving at your accommodation after a full day on the water. The tour runs 10 hours from start to finish.
