The experience
You leave Puno by motorboat in the morning and arrive at the Uros Floating Islands, where you step onto islands built entirely from totora reeds: a plant that grows in the lake's shallow areas. The islanders show you how they construct and maintain these artificial islands, adding fresh reeds every few weeks to keep them buoyant. You can walk through their homes, see how they build boats from the same material, and browse handicrafts. An optional reed boat ride (20 soles per person) takes you across the water on a hand-made vessel shaped like a puma, the kind used in ancient times.
From Uros, the boat continues to Amantani Island, where a local family welcomes you into their home for the night. Dinner and breakfast are cooked with local ingredients (quinoa soup, potatoes, fried cheese, eggs) in their kitchen. In the evening, the community gathers for a traditional dance party. You dress in typical Andean attire (ponchos and woolen caps for men, embroidered blouses and layered skirts for women) and dance to live music with your hosts. The next morning, after breakfast with the family, you hike downhill to the dock.
Day two takes you to Taquile Island, where you walk uphill to the main village at the crest. In the Plaza de Armas, a cooperative store sells hand-woven hats, scarves, and textiles made by locals. Your guide explains the island's dress code: Taquile men wear red and white hats if single, solid red if married, and community leaders wear special woven belts. You'll watch a weaving demonstration using natural dyes from plants and minerals, then eat lunch on the island before returning to Puno by late afternoon. The motorboat, all meals, accommodation, and guide are included. Hotel pickup and drop-off cover center locations only.

Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 11 years). Under 3: they can't be included in the booking.
What exactly are the Uros Floating Islands made of?
The Uros islands are built entirely from totora reeds, a plant that grows in Lake Titicaca's shallow areas. The islanders construct their homes and boats from the same material and add fresh reeds every few weeks to keep the islands buoyant, so stepping onto one feels like walking on a giant floating straw mat.
Do I stay in a hotel on Amantani, or somewhere else?
You stay in a local family's home on Amantani Island. They provide a basic room with beds and blankets, cook your meals in their kitchen, and invite you to a traditional dance party in the evening with other community members.
What do I see on Taquile Island?
Taquile Island is known for its master weavers and preserved Andean culture. You walk to the main village at the crest, visit a cooperative store selling hand-made textiles, watch a weaving demonstration using natural dyes, and see how locals use distinctive dress (including colored hats that signal whether men are single or married) to mark their identity and status in the community.
Is the reed boat ride on Uros included in the tour price?
The reed boat ride is optional and costs 20 soles per person extra. It takes you on a short cruise across the lake on a hand-made reed vessel shaped like a puma, a chance to experience the kind of boat used in ancient times.
What meals are provided over the two days?
Dinner on day one and breakfast on day two are cooked by your host family on Amantani Island using local ingredients like quinoa, potatoes, and eggs. Lunch on day two is served on Taquile Island. The motorboat journey includes these meals and water.
How high do we hike on Amantani?
Amantani's two mountain peaks (Pachamama and Pachatata) reach about 4,130 meters elevation. Hiking to one of these ancient temple sites is a highlight of the tour, offering 360-degree views of Lake Titicaca, especially striking at sunset.
