The experience
The Uros Islands come first: a cluster of floating settlements built entirely from totora reeds where the Uros people have lived for generations. You walk on the spongy ground, see how the islands are constructed and maintained, and learn about a way of life that has stayed largely unchanged. The boat then carries you across open water to Amantani Island, a remote, round island at 3,800 meters elevation where about 3,500 Quechua speakers live in ten communities. No cars reach here, no hotels line the shore. You stay in a homestay with a local family, eat dinner with them, and sleep as part of the household. The terraced hills around you grow quinoa, potatoes and wheat. Livestock graze on the slopes.
On the morning of day two, you climb to one of the two sacred peaks (Pachatata or Pachamama), where Inca-Tiwanaku ruins sit and annual rituals still take place. The view across the lake spreads below you. After descending, the boat carries you to Taquile Island, where the day centers on the island's famous handwoven textiles and the Quechua traditions that shape daily life. You walk through communities, see the textiles being made, and understand the cultural practices passed down through generations. The tour ends back in Puno at the main square.
Entrance fees to all three islands, dinner on Amantani, and breakfast the next morning are included. A live guide in your chosen language (English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian or another option) travels with the group throughout. Hotel pickup from Puno is arranged. The boat schedule follows the itinerary, and the homestay accommodation is part of the booking.

The homestay on Amantani means you experience the island as a guest of a local family rather than as a visitor passing through, and the two-day pace lets you spend real time on each island instead of rushing between them in a single afternoon.
