The Experience

The boat leaves the port with a covered cabin, comfortable seats and a bathroom aboard. You'll sail across Lake Titicaca—the world's highest navigable lake—while your guide explains the history and cultural significance of the lake to the indigenous communities who have lived on its waters for generations. The route takes roughly 30 minutes to reach the first island, giving you time to photograph the open water and the mountains beyond.

On the first island, Uros families welcome you and walk you through how the islands are constructed entirely from totora reeds—a technique passed down through generations. The guide shows you the layers of vegetation that keep the islands buoyant and how daily maintenance keeps them intact. If you want to go further, you can book a ride in a traditional totora boat (15 soles per person) to experience the islands from the water itself. The second island has an observation tower where you can see the full expanse of the lake and the surrounding landscape without the crowds.

Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, so you don't arrange transport to the port. The guide speaks both English and Spanish.
