The Experience

The first thing that hit me was the quiet. After hours on the overnight bus from Cusco (not as bad as I feared — they had Wi-Fi, which felt weirdly modern for where we were headed), we stepped off in Puno before sunrise. There was this chill in the air and a faint smell of woodsmoke drifting over the lake. I remember thinking, “So this is Lake Titicaca.” It didn’t feel like anywhere else I’d been.
