Step-by-step itinerary
Wadi Shab full day tour and sightseeing
- Travel from Muscat to Quriyat
- Pass by Bimmah Sinkhole for photos
- Reach Wadi Shab and walk canyon
- Have a picnic at Wadi Shab
- Swim in pools and cave waterfall
- Stop and relax at Fins Beach
- Return to Muscat
The experience
The day starts with pickup from your Muscat hotel or port, then heads east along the coast toward Quriyat. A quick stop at Bimmah Sinkhole breaks up the drive: a collapsed limestone dome that fills with seawater, worth a photo before continuing inland. The 4WD then climbs over the plateau and descends into Wadi Shab itself, where the real walk begins.
From the wadi entrance, a 40-minute walk takes you through a canyon floor strewn with rocks and pebbles, past green terraced gardens fed by underground streams. The terrain is uneven and requires sturdy walking shoes. The path is not paved. As you go deeper, the canyon opens into a series of natural pools fed by freshwater springs. You'll swim in clear water, then approach the narrow keyhole cave: a tight opening you pass through to emerge inside a cavern where a waterfall drops into a pool. This is where you swim and spend time. A picnic break happens somewhere in the wadi itself.
On the return journey, the tour stops at Fins Beach to rest before the drive back to Muscat. The full day runs 7 to 8 hours from pickup to drop-off. A private vehicle (either a salon car for three or a 4WD for up to six) and an English-speaking guide are included, along with bottled water and all national park fees. The route is not recommended for travelers with cardiovascular issues, spinal injuries, or pregnancy.
What’s included
- Private 4WD or salon car transport with a maximum of six or three passengers respectively.
- English-speaking driver and guide.
- round-trip hotel or port pickup and drop-off.
- national park entry fees.
- bottled water.
- and all local taxes and fuel surcharges.

Is this one for you?Book this tour if you want to swim inside a cave with a waterfall rather than just view the wadi from above. The private vehicle means your group controls the pace and timing at each stop, and the 4WD handles the rough terrain to the canyon entrance. If you're traveling with young children, note that the rocky 40-minute walk and cave swimming require confident swimmers and sturdy footing.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 12 years); Infant (under 4): free.
How difficult is the walk through Wadi Shab?
The walk is easy in pace but rocky underfoot. About 40 minutes of walking takes you through a canyon floor covered in rocks and pebbles, past terraced gardens, to the pools. Sturdy walking shoes are essential because the terrain is uneven and slippery in places, especially near the water.
Can I swim in the cave at Wadi Shab?
Yes. After the 40-minute walk, you reach a series of pools where you can swim in clear water. The keyhole cave is a narrow opening you pass through to enter a cavern with a waterfall and a pool inside, where you swim as well.
What is Bimmah Sinkhole?
Bimmah Sinkhole is a collapsed limestone dome on the coast between Muscat and Wadi Shab. Seawater fills it, creating a natural pool. The tour stops there briefly on the way out so you can photograph it before heading inland to the wadi.
Is lunch included in the tour?
Lunch is not included. A picnic break happens in the wadi, so bring your own food or arrange it beforehand. Bottled water is provided.
What should I bring for this tour?
Bring sturdy walking shoes, swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and a camera. The walk is rocky and the sun exposure is high. A waterproof bag for your phone is useful near the pools and cave.
