The experience
The tour runs four to five hours and moves through Muscat's main landmarks in a single arc. You start at Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, where you walk the grounds and gardens, then move to the Royal Opera House to see its architecture and heritage from outside (entrance tickets are separate). The Omani National Museum comes next, holding the city's ancient history, followed by Al-Alam Palace with its sea views and traditional buildings.
From there you visit Al-Mirani and Al-Jalali Castle, two fortifications you photograph from outside, then finish at Muttrah Souq: the traditional market where you browse, shop for souvenirs and take your time. A private car means no group schedule. The guide speaks English and moves at your pace. Bottled water and coffee or tea travel with you, so you stay comfortable between stops.
Entrance tickets to the Royal Opera House (3 ryal per person) and the Omani National Museum (5 ryal per person) are not included, so budget for those separately if you want to go inside. The tour is wheelchair accessible, and infants can ride in a pram or stroller.
