The experience

The corals run the full spectrum: hard formations that build the reef structure, soft ones that sway in the current. Honeycomb Murray eels hide in the rocks. Rays glide across the sandy patches between coral heads. Schools of fish move as a single organism. In summer, whale sharks show up, though they're not guaranteed. Black-tip sharks are a less common sighting but possible.

The group stays small enough that the guide can point out what's easy to miss: a turtle's head emerging from a crevice, the pattern that tells one eel from another.
