The experience
The Dimaniyat Islands are a protected marine nature reserve, which means the coral and fish populations stay stable year to year. Pickup starts in the Muscat area in the early morning, and you travel by vehicle (salon, 4x4, minivan or coach bus depending on group size) to the coast. From there, the boat takes you out to the islands. You'll snorkel at multiple sites around the reserve, with the guide leading and pointing out what lives in the water. The turquoise shallows are home to reef fish, and the protected status keeps the ecosystem intact enough that you see the same species reliably.
Between snorkel sessions, you'll rest on the pristine beaches of the islands themselves. The five-hour outing includes all snorkeling gear, a life jacket, water and soft drinks during the day, and a sandwich lunch. The guide speaks English and knows the reserve well enough to read the conditions and pick the safest, most rewarding sites for the day. Children from age two are welcome, though very young ones will need to stay close to an adult in the water.
