The experience
The morning starts at Chamsi's home in Hay El Hana, an upscale Casablanca neighborhood. After a refreshing drink and introductions, you head out together to the local market. Chamsi shows you where she shops for produce, takes you through the meat market, and walks you past the spices she uses in her cooking. The market visit is not a tour of stalls. It's a working shopping trip where you're picking ingredients for the meal you'll cook that afternoon.
Back at her home, you move into the kitchen to prepare a selection of traditional dishes: Moroccan salads with eggplant, tomatoes, onions and roasted peppers; a lamb, beef or chicken tagine with seasonal vegetables; couscous; and milk pastilla for dessert. Chamsi teaches you the techniques and the flavor secrets as you work. Once the cooking is done, you sit down with Chamsi and her family to eat the meal you've made, accompanied by wine and the homemade dessert.
The whole experience runs about five hours. You can book a lunch departure or a dinner one. Choose lunch or dinner when you reserve. The guide speaks English and French. Vegetarian options and other dietary needs can be arranged if you mention them at booking.

Is this one for you?Book the lunch departure if you want the market at its busiest and an afternoon class, or choose dinner if you prefer to start later in the day. Either way, you're cooking and eating with a local chef in her home, not watching a demonstration, so come ready to stand in the kitchen and learn by doing.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and French.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (5 to 11 years); Infant (under 5): free.
What dishes do you actually cook in the class?
You prepare Moroccan salads with eggplant, tomatoes, onions and roasted peppers; a tagine with lamb, beef or chicken and seasonal vegetables; couscous; and milk pastilla for dessert. The exact seasonal vegetables in the tagine depend on what's fresh at the market the day you go.
Do you eat the food you cook, or is it just a demonstration?
You eat the meal you've prepared together with Chamsi and her family at her home, with wine and dessert included. It's a full meal, not a tasting.
Is this a private class, or do you cook with other travelers?
This is a private experience. Just you and your group with Chamsi. No other travelers join the class or the meal.
What happens if I book a Friday market visit?
Friday morning market visits are less active than other days because it's a prayer day and some stalls may be closed. Friday evening market tours are not offered at all. Any other day of the week, the market is fully operational.
What's included in the price, and what isn't?
The class includes the market visit, all ingredients and cooking instruction, the meal you prepare, wine, and dessert. Hotel pickup and drop-off are not included. You'll meet Chamsi at her home in Hay El Hana.
