The Experience
First light at Chichen Itza feels different. We pulled up before most folks even finished breakfast—just a handful of us and the soft sound of birds waking up. Our guide, Miguel, pointed out how the sun hit the Temple of Kukulcán, making the stone almost glow. No crowds meant we could actually hear the wind move through the trees. I snapped a photo with no one in the background—never thought that’d be possible here.
After exploring the ruins for about two hours, we headed to Cenote Ik Kil. The air changed—cooler, with a faint earthy smell. We were among the first there, so the water was still and clear. I dipped my feet in before jumping all the way—felt like a secret spot. There’s a small snack stand nearby; I grabbed a fresh coconut before we left. The whole day felt relaxed, never rushed.
