A full day of activities: ziplines, ATVs, cenote, horseback, and tequila

This activity combines ziplining, ATV riding, cenote swimming, horseback riding and tequila tasting in Cancun's Mayan Jungle Rush, starting with hotel pickup and ending with lunch. The day runs five hours and includes roundtrip transport, a live guide in English or Spanish, insurance, and a light meal. Children from age 4 are welcome; moderate fitness is required, and closed shoes are recommended for the ziplines.

The Experience

Your hotel in Cancun or the Riviera Maya is where the day starts — a guide picks you up and drives you to Mayan Jungle Rush in the jungle. Once there, you trade the van for a harness and step onto the first of four ziplines that carry you through the forest canopy. Between ziplines, you cross hanging bridges that test your balance while the trees open up below you. The ground comes back when you're ready: you walk down, swap the harness for an ATV helmet, and follow the guide down rugged jungle trails where the bike bounces over rocks and roots under thick cover.

By mid-afternoon you reach the cenote — a freshwater pool inside a massive limestone cave system that the Yucatan is built on. You can zipline into it, cliff-jump from the rocks, or take the stairs down. After cooling off, you head back to base for a light snack and a tequila tasting led by someone who knows the spirit's history and taste. Lunch is cochinita tacos (pork) or a vegan snack with water. Photos from the day are available to buy before you return to your hotel.

Pickup is included for Cancun and Puerto Morelos; if you're staying in Playa del Carmen, there's a $10 USD per-person fee. The ziplines have a weight limit of 286 pounds; horseback riding maxes out at 264 pounds. You'll ride horses for 30 minutes as part of the day. Closed shoes are strongly recommended for the ziplines, and the activity isn't suitable for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancy.

Top questions

What exactly happens on the ziplines in Cancun?

You zipline through four separate lines strung across the jungle canopy, then cross hanging bridges between them that challenge your balance while you're suspended above the forest. The whole circuit takes you through the treetops before you descend to ground level.

Can I swim in the cenote or do I have to jump?

The cenote has three ways in: you can zipline directly into the water, cliff-jump from the rocks, or walk down stairs into the underground pool. You choose which one suits you when you get there.

Is the ATV ride difficult if I've never ridden before?

The guide leads you down rugged jungle trails for 30 minutes, so you're following a path rather than navigating on your own. Moderate physical fitness is required, and the guide ensures your safety while you ride.

What's included in the tequila tasting?

A knowledgeable guide walks you through Mexico's most famous spirit, covering its taste and cultural background. The tasting happens at the base after you've cooled off from the cenote.

How long is the horseback riding part?

Horseback riding lasts 30 minutes and is part of the full five-hour day. You ride through the landscape after the other activities are done.

Do I need to bring anything or wear specific clothes?

Closed shoes are strongly recommended for the ziplines. The activity isn't recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancy. A moderate level of physical fitness is needed for the full day.
