The Experience

I didn’t realize how much I needed that hush—standing in front of Chichen Itza before the crowds showed up. The air was still a bit cool, and our guide, Ana, had this way of making the old stones feel alive. She pointed out tiny details in the carvings I never would’ve noticed (the serpent heads almost looked like they’d move if you blinked). The early access part? Totally worth it. By the time we left, the sun was hot and buses were rolling in—felt lucky to have had that quiet hour.

Afterward we headed to Valladolid. I’d seen photos but walking those pastel streets is something else—the colors are softer than Instagram makes them look. There was a guy selling fresh mango on a stick near the main square; I bought one just because it smelled so sweet. Ana explained why Valladolid’s called a “Magic Town” and shared a story about her grandmother growing up there. She laughed when I tried to pronounce “cenote” right (I still can’t).

The cenote swim was honestly my favorite part—even though I’m not much of a swimmer. The water felt cold at first but then perfect after all that sun. You have to wear a life vest (not included), which made me feel slightly ridiculous but also safe enough to float around and stare up at the vines hanging down into the light. Lunch after swimming tasted better than usual—I guess hunger does that. There were veggie options too, which surprised me.

What’s included

Your day includes roundtrip transportation from Cancun or designated meeting points, an early guided visit to Chichen Itza with personalized attention from a bilingual expert, entry to Valladolid with time to explore its colorful streets, access to swim in a natural cenote (life vest required but not included), and a buffet lunch with vegetarian choices before heading back feeling full—in more ways than one.
