The experience

The tour starts at 9:00 AM with pickup from your hotel and a drive to the Giraffe Centre, where a guide takes you through the conservation work protecting an endangered species. You'll learn how Rothschild giraffes live, what they eat, how they behave and what habitats they need to survive. While the guide talks, the giraffes roam the grounds around you. This is not a zoo enclosure but a working education center that teaches thousands of Kenyan schoolchildren each year about wildlife protection.

After the Giraffe Centre, you have the option to visit Kobe Beads factory, where single parents from the neighborhood hand-make ceramic beads, leather purses and beaded belts. The stop is optional, so you can skip it if time is tight or if you want to spend longer at the giraffes. If you go, you'll meet the artisans and can buy souvenirs directly from them. The whole experience, both stops if you choose them, wraps up with a drive back to your hotel.
