The Experience

The first thing I remember is the color — that soft pink glow just before sunrise as we sped out of Nairobi, the city still half asleep. Our driver, Daniel, handed me a bottle of water and said something about “making it before the light gets harsh.” I didn’t totally get it until we hit the savanna and saw the Maasai herders in their bright wraps, cattle moving like slow shadows.
